According to Motor Authority, acceleration isn't the first characteristic that comes to mind when it comes to Kia, but the automaker will change that with their confirmation of the upcoming Stinger's 0-62mph sprint time.

Powered by a 365-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6 engine, the Stinger GT can accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 4.9 seconds. This was achieved with an 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. Kia is still holding off on announcing the figures for the all-wheel drive version.

As it was timed from 0-62mph, the Stinger's 0-60mph figure should be even lower. That should put it in the same league as other performance sedans like the Mercedes-AMG C43 with a time of 4.7 seconds, or maybe even the E43 at 4.6 seconds.

While this may not seem newsworthy to some because there are faster sedans out there, it is a milestone for the automaker as the Stinger is the fastest-accelerating car the brand has ever produced.

At launch the Stinger will be offered with other engine options including a 255-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4. Some markets will even be getting a 197-hp turbocharged 2.2-liter inline-4 diesel variant. Once it goes on sale late this year, customers can choose to get their Stinger in a yellow paint finish and have it fitted with an optional carbon fiber pack.
