Kia’s upcoming grand touring vehicle is a head turner with luxury features and rear or all-wheel drive. With so much going for the Stinger GT, it was only a matter of time until a publication like CarAndDriver listed the 13 reasons why the Stinger is Kia’s best model yet.
Of course there’s Kia’s mission to release something a little “ballsy” in terms of design, after all this was the company that brought us the quirky Kia Soul. Inspired by Italian grand touring cars from the 1970’s like the Maserati Ghibli, chief designer Gregory Guillaume wanted to make the journey more passionate instead of prioritizing hard-edged dynamics over comfort.
With a wheelbase of 114.4-inches, the Stinger GT is a bit longer than the BMW 3-series and just 1.7 inches shy of the Porsche Panamera, but the one inch difference won’t affect the cabin space. There’s plenty of rear seat legroom, enough for your passengers to cross their legs.
Unfortunately, some may see the Stinger GT as a little beefy at 3650 pounds for the base model and 3900 pounds for the fully equipped all-wheel-drive variant. But its 365 horsepower 3.3-liter V-6 should be more than enough to get this grand tourer moving,
especially since the Stinger GT engineers took the time to develop this car on the 12.9-mile Nordschleife. It’s eager to pull and drivers are treated to a baritone burble from a set of quad exhaust pipes.
Nothing is overlooked, even the bushing choices were scrutinized and probably the 19-inch wheels as well with the standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. Sure, the eight-speed automatic transmission and its three overdrive ratios could be improved a bit in terms of paddle response, but for an expected price of around $33,000 to $48,000 the Stinger GT is the perfect candidate to fill the rear-drive sedan niche once the Dodge Charger retires.
