Kia wants you to take the Stinger seriously

So we've known for awhile that part of Kia's marketing plan is what they have deemed the Stinger Experience. It basically allows interested buyers to spend some track time in the Stinger, and now it seems they are taking things a step further. Not only can you test drive the Stinger, but you can also drive one of its German competitors for comparison. At past events Kia not only had a fleet of Stingers on hand, but also s BMW 650i, a Porsche Panamera and an Audi S5. They firmly believe after driving both the Stinger and one of the German competitors that you'll realize the Stinger is in the same league.

Its great to see that Kia has so much confidence in the Stinger, that they are willing to let the car speak for itself. I wish people were less concerned with its badging and more focused on what's been packaged together here. Hopefully once we get some long term reviews, people will be more willing to give the new platform a chance.

I've seen a couple auto publications suggest that the Stinger is the best German saloon to ever come out of Korea. I suppose the barrier to entry for most people are concerns around reliability with an unproven platform. There's no denying it delivers on the same performance as German rivals, but does it have the same durability?

I mean the brand itself has never issued any significant recalls, so I'm not sure why people are so concerned with build quality. They make it seems like German cars never require any maintenance and repairs. If anything the cost of ownership will probably be higher on a German vehicle due to higher parts and labour costs.

I think it has more to do with some people accepting the idea that its a Kia and not another high end German saloon. So far it seems Kia is working hard to change that with how improved all their latest models have been. Even a new flagship sedan wears the Kia name, unlike Hyundai that launched the Genesis line.

It may be something for Kia to consider if there really is that big of a barrier to their nameplate. I think Hyundai may have taken things a step too far with the Genesis though, as I don't think it was entirely necessary to launch Genesis exclusive dealerships. You don't see Mercedes or BMW doing that with their premium models.
