Just a PSA to everyone that hasn't hear already but there's a fire risk recall out that should be addressed immediately. If your dealer hasn't contacted you then please get in touch with them.

Kia is recalling the brand-new 2018 Stinger due to reports of a potential fire risk, caused by a short circuit in the wiring harness.

The Korean brand filed paperwork with the NHTSA last month, stating 16,011 Kia Stinger models could potentially be affected by the issue, which could occur after the vehicle enters limp mode or displays a "malfunction indicator warning light."

Owners will receive a letter telling them if their car is affected, and asking them to take it to a dealership where the front wiring harness will be inspected for damage. If any damage is found, it will be replaced for free.

A plug will be inserted into a hole in the body where the harness could rub against the fender and cause wires to be exposed, regardless of whether any damage is found or not.

If your vehicle is made after June 8th, your vehicle should not be affected in the recall because of a change in the fender stamping that doesn't rub against the wiring harness; still, check your mailbox just in case. The recall will start on December 20th.

We'll have to get used to seeing recalls in this volume because vehicles, like many other products built these days, aren't made to be perfect but instead are subject to very tight deadlines resulting in products that are just good enough to launch. Few are truly built to last.
